Day and Night Sculpture – Wood Art
Day and Night Sculpture
Inspiration for this Day and Night sculpture comes from one of my favorite Surrealist Artists. Rene Magritte, Belgian born artist paintings challenge us to look carefully at the world with his thought-provoking images. For example, he shows a well-dressed man standing on a bridge with a lion at his side. We would expect a dog. A beautiful daytime sky over a park at night.
As you now know Rene Magritte played with daylight and darkness in many images. This is where I got the idea for this sculpture. If you hold this wood sculpture from the side or from the top you see daylight, sky, and clouds. Turn the piece over and you only see the blackness of night and the stars. This piece features several skills including turning, carving and painting. The size is approximately 6 by 6 by 6 inches.
If you like this piece there are other wood sculpture Art pieces that I have made that you may want to take a look at. Matisse is also a great artist that I admire. His smooth flowing lines and open white spaces draw us into his ink and pencil drawings. When he could no longer paint he cut paper leaves, flowers, and birds and then assembled them into wonderful Art Pieces. As a tribute to Matisse take a look at my Falling Autumn Leaves.
Day and Night Sculpture will make a wonderful addition to any art collection. It can be your first piece on the wonderful journey to collecting art. Great Valentine’s Day gift and unique display piece. You know that wood is the Fifth Anniversary Wedding Gift. Truly a One of a Kind piece. There is much more to see in my Etsy Store.
Made in the USA in my studio in Montvale NJ.
