Natural Edge Spalted Platter
This is a beautiful Natural Edge Spalted Birch Platter that is a one of a kind item with asymmetric edging.  The style is known as Natural Edge Spalted Platter. The definition of Natural Edge is a wood product with the bark intact or the edge that remains should the bark fall off.  An interesting fact is that wood harvested in the winter or fall will more likely maintain the bark in place. Wood harvested in the spring or summer will often see the bark fall off as the wood dries.  This is due to the wet fibers under the bark not having enough time to attach to the sapwood.

Keep out of direct sunlight
Minimize exposure to wide swings in humidity levels
Do not wash with water, if necessary use only a damp cloth
Wax lightly with a quality food safe wax or oil and buff to restore the luster.  I like beeswax, walnut oil or mineral oil.
