So You Think You Can Dance Bowl

Matisse Inspiration

So You Think You Can Dance Bowl is inspired by the work of Henri Matisse. When he became ill and could no longer paint he cut paper images of flowers, dancers and birds.  This bowl honors that strength and commitment to creating.  The size is 9.5 inches diameter by 3.5 high.

So You Think You Can Dance Bowl is created from using images often repeated in his painting and collages.  Matisse is one of my favorite artists.  Here is a link to the dance painting hanging in MOMA in NYC. This piece of wood art features turning a thin wall wood bowl on a lathe.  I sketch the images  over several days at the studio bench.  Then I carve, pierce, sand and paint.  My signature, Alan Adler is on the bottom. This bowl is perfect as a Display Piece. It throws great shadows with the proper lighting.

If you collect art or are starting out a piece like Matisse Inspired Dancing Vase belongs in your collection.  Picture it as a centerpiece on a shelf. Surely it will be a conversation piece. This will make a wonderful gift for that special person in your life.

Care Instructions for Wood Art and Bowls

  1. Keep out of direct sunlight and minimize exposure to wide swings in humidity levels

  2. Do not wash with water and if necessary use only a damp cloth

  3. Wax lightly with a quality food safe wax or oil and buff to restore the luster.  I favor beeswax, walnut oil or mineral oil.
