Colored Pencil and Burl Earrings feature stunning colors and natural woods. I design these with color pencil sections and maple burl with resin. The earrings are lightweight with sterling silver wires.
These Colored Pencil and Burl Earrings represent a new style of handmade jewelry for my product line. Previously, all my earrings had metal bezels and findings and I will continue to make them this way. There were many requests from galleries to find ways to make them lighter in weight. By eliminating the metal components the weight is significantly reduced. The other method was to make the inlay thinner and to use smaller bezels. These adjustments make the earrings more interesting.
I began to make wood jewelry in 2010. Beginning with wood necklaces and pendants I learned about jewelry components like beads, bales, chain, leather which opened up ways to experiment with multimedia materials. Soon I moved on to casting colored pencils in resin. My first pieces were color pencil bracelets turned on a lathe. This lead to designing earrings, wood rings, money clips and cufflinks.
Color Pencils make a fashion statement and always garner attention. They are great items to start a conversation. Ask someone what the colors are made of and most will not be able to tell you. When you say they are color pencils they respond “Wow.” Ask a child and she will immediately say colored pencils.
