Ambrosia Wood Vase is handmade on a wood lathe and features Ambrosia Beetle markings from where the insect invades the maple tree. During their lifespan they eat the wood fibers and leave behind these incredible markings. Every log displays unique markings. Also, visible are holes usually at the end of a line where the beette enters and leaves the wood. Eventually these bugs will kill the tree.

All of my wooden items are food safe and have my signature on the base. Items on my website are handmade in my studio in Montvale, NJ USA. Much of my time is spent at the lathe developing the form. Once I am happy with the shape I will spend additional time refining the piece with a variety of techniques that may include pyrography, carving, staining and painting. Finally I use sandpaper and a protective oil finish that I will buff and polish.
Care for Wood items
Keep out of direct sunlight and minimize exposure to wide swings in humidity levels
Do not wash with water, but if necessary use a damp cloth and wipe dry
Wax lightly with a quality food safe wax or oil and buff to restore the luster. I like beeswax, walnut oil or mineral oil.
